Memory Work Verse 6- Col. 3:17 This is it!

Verse 6- Colossians 3:17 And whatever all of you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. What does it mean for things to be done "in the name of the Lord Jesus"?  Nearly every prayer I have ever heard ends with the words "In Jesus name we pray, amen."  What is this "name" business?  In our day and age we don't have a person or a name that we listen to above others.  One would respect the president or a mayor, but it is the fact that they are in the office that give then authority and ...

Memory Work Verse 5- Col. 3:16

Memory Work 5- Col. 3:16- Let the message of Christ dwell among you all richly as all of you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in all of your hearts. Paul's letter to the church in Colossae would have been carried by a messenger and then read to the entire church.  Think about the plural "yous" in this passage; Paul is speaking to the entire congregation and tells all of them "Let the message of Christ dwell among y’all richly as all y’all teach and admonish one another ...

Prepare Our Hearts- May 3

This week in the morning service we will continue to see how Jesus calls us to live in the Kingdom of Heaven.  In Matthew chapter 6 (this week's text) Jesus particularly addresses three righteous practices (giving, praying, and fasting) telling us how to do them as God desires.  The next section begins a substantial discussion about wealth, making the statement "You can't serve both God and money."  Jesus then proceeds to give multiple examples about why God is the better investment in the long-term.

Memory Work Verse 4- Col. 3:15

Col. 3:15- Let the peace of Christ rule in all of your hearts, since as members of one body you all were called to peace. And be thankful. "Let the peace of Christ rule in all of your hearts".  What rules in your heart today?  I would love to say that Christ's peace rules everyday.  Love and patience exude out my pores like sweat on a humid July day.   I wish that were the case. Sometimes I am not sure what is ruling in my heart.  Sometimes I get suddenly short tempered, or think the worst of someone simply because they think different than I do.  That is why ...
