Ray Vanderlaan Seminar 2017
Jerusalem: Jesus’ Passion in Context with Ray Vanderlaan
The seminar will explore the week of Jesus life from Palm Sunday to Easter in the context of the city of Jerusalem. The familiar stories become fresh and powerful when considered in the setting in which they occurred. The Jewish culture, the Hebrew Bible, Imperial Rome who executed him, and the expectations of the disciples will be explored in depth. We will seek to understand Jesus’ teaching that last week as well as the implications of his suffering by a deeper understanding of them in their original context. Studied in this way God’s call to all to believe and live as his partners, bringing shalom to the chaos of our broken world will challenge you deeply.
Participants should prepare by reading the following passages:
Matthew 20-28, Mark 8:11-16, Luke 17-24, John 11 -21
There will be three sessions: Friday 3/17 from 7 – 9 pm, Saturday 3/18 from 9 – 4 (lunch will be provided) and then Sunday 3/19 at 9:30 am for a worship service.
You will not be charged for the event, but donations are welcome to offset the cost of the seminar. Any remaining funds will be donated to That The World May Know. Donations can be made at the seminar. (http://www.thattheworldmayknow.com)
