Requested & Expanded Announcements

January 22, 2017

Newsletter ~ Information for the February newsletter is due today and may be placed in the newsletter box in the narthex.

Mitten Bee ~ Anyone interested in participating in a “mitten bee”?  The plan is to gather at the Visser’s house a couple of nights and together make felted sweater mittens for Love INC to give to their clients.  The dates will be Wednesday, January 25 and Wednesday, February 1 from 6:30 – 8 pm.  Please let Ruth Visser know if you plan on joining.  No special skills required.  If you can work a scissors, there is a job for you.  We make these mittens from old wool sweaters, so even if you are not interested in helping to make the mittens, would you dig around your closets to see if you have any wool sweaters you could donate?  The sweaters can be brought to church before January 23.  Talk with Ruth Visser if you have any questions or want more information.

Cadets will be meeting on January 25 and February 8 in the clubhouse from 6:30 – 7:45 pm.  Our Heritage Council Snow Derby will be February 11.

Baby Basket is ready to welcome Ellie Hope Oetman with your cards and gifts.  Welcome cards and gifts may be placed in the basket, located in the fellowship hall by the mailboxes, until February 12.

Noisy Offering ~ For the months of January and February the Noisy Offering will be for The King’s Children’s Home in Belmopan, Belize.  This is  a home for orphaned and abused children and also rescues girls out of sex-trafficking rings and many of these young girls are pregnant.  This home has “house mothers” that come and stay with the babies at night and help during the day so that the girls can go to school.  The “Noisy Offering” will help purchase diapers which is a constant need and luxury, which they can hardly afford.  Sandi Nyboer has been able to visit this orphanage and held these babies.  This is truly a huge need and even though we are 2,908 miles away we can help with this need.

Volunteers Needed ~ The Food Pantry is in need of a volunteer to help distribute food to the Love INC clients on Mondays from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm once a month.  If you would like to fill this need talk with Paul & Teresa Nyboer at 751.8450.

Parenting Class ~ You are invited to a free six-week class of Parenting, The Love and Logic Way at Overisel Reformed Church, 4706 – 142nd.  Classes begin on Wednesday, January 25 at 6:30 pm.  Each parent or couple will want a workbook, so if possible register ahead of time.  You can register by emailing or calling Overisel Reformed Church at office@orcministries.org or 269.751.8744.  Please give your name and contact information along with the number and ages of your children.  For more information a flyer is available on the Welcome Table.

School ~ Parents interested in learning more about 2017-18 preschool and kindergarten at Holland Christian Schools are invited to come to the Discovery Nights on Tuesday, January 31 at South Side Elementary from 6 – 7:30 pm.  Childcare provided.  Parents interested in learning more about Holland Christian High School are invited to the High School Showcase on Monday, January 30 at 7 pm.  For more information contact Courtney Lampen at 616.820.2804 or clampen@hollandchristian.org.

Concert ~ The Singing Crusaders Male Chorus of West Michigan under the direction of Rev. Dr. Daniel Gillett will have a concert at Bentheim Reformed Church on Sunday, January 29 at 6 pm.  Come, sit relax and enjoy a night of great sacred music.

Mission Opportunities ~ Are you interested in serving overseas this summer?  You can lead English camps In Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania or Asia, an adventure camp in Romania or visit the Holy Land.  Visit crwm.org/Summer2017 for more information. Young people want to learn English from you!  Many young people want to learn English from native speakers.

World Renew ~ Help end the poverty cycle.  Sea-to-Sea is a bicycling mission benefiting World Renew and Partners Worldwide.  In 2017, the bicyclists hope to raise $3 million to help end global poverty.  Your       involvement will increase the impact of this effort on the lives of vulnerable people around the world.  Support the cause:  Ride with us!  We currently have 67 registered riders and have a goal of 85 by the end of January.  To give, ride, volunteer, or simply learn more, visit seatosea.org.
